NAA’s Core Knowledge and Competencies describes the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed by after-school professionals to provide high-quality programming that supports the learning and development of children and youth. Competencies are grouped into 10 content areas, including child and youth growth and development; learning environment and curriculum; youth engagement; family, school and community relationships; and professional development and leadership. This set of core knowledge and competencies brings together research and development to promote the professional development of the after-school field.
