While the greetings and activities in this book let children and youth in kindergarten through eigth grade practice a number of important skills, such as oral language skills, reading and active listening, they also are developing such skills as risk taking, choice making, problem solving, self-control, active participation, assertion and cooperation. The book's use of the morning meeting format encourages the development of social skills and the activities allow for building community, fostering participation and having fun. The activities and greetings are divided into two sections: for use early in the school year and those for later in the school year. Activities and greetings are also identified by grade level.
