Cooking Art offers a variety of activities and crafts that teaches children to have fun in the kitchen. This Thanksgiving, get your children to contribute to the holiday decor with a table runner everyone will love!
Materials:
- Needle and thread
- Flat surface to work on
- Fresh leaves and flowers
- Scissors
- Grocery bags
- Hammer
- Unbleached muslin or fabric
- Table knife
Process:
- Cut a piece of fabric to measure 2’ wide by 5’ long (or the length of your table)
- Turn the edges of the fabric down about 1/2inch all the way around and sew in place
- Spread the grocery bags out on a hard work surface
- Spread the fabric out on the grocery bags
- Arrange leaves and flowers on half of the fabric
- Fold the other half of the fabric over the arrangement
- Pound hammer on top of where the leaves have been placed. Continue until the juices and colors soak through the fabric
- Open the fabric and scrape away the plant residue with a table knife
- Use centerpieces to complement the pattern
