Cooking Art offers a variety of activities and crafts that teaches children to have fun in the kitchen. This Thanksgiving, get your children to contribute to the holiday decor with a table runner everyone will love! 

Materials:

• Needle and thread
• Flat surface to work on
• Fresh leaves and flowers
• Scissors
• Grocery bags
• Hammer
• Unbleached muslin or fabric
• Table knife

Process:

1. Cut a piece of fabric to measure 2’ wide by 5’ long (or the length of your table)
2. Turn the edges of the fabric down about 1/2inch all the way around and sew in place
3. Spread the grocery bags out on a hard work surface
4. Spread the fabric out on the grocery bags
5. Arrange leaves and flowers on half of the fabric
6. Fold the other half of the fabric over the arrangement
7. Pound hammer on top of where the leaves have been placed. Continue until the juices and colors soak through the fabric
8. Open the fabric and scrape away the plant residue with a table knife
9. Use centerpieces to complement the pattern
